Who Is Jesus Christ?

If you're curious about who Jesus Christ is there is only one source that can give you accurate information about him: The Holy Bible. This may sound funny, but even though many "Christs" have been invented over the years, there is only one, true, Jesus Christ. The Bible says that Jesus Christ is God in the flesh. This is what makes him different from all the other prophets and holy men.

As you read about Jesus Christ you'll find many different religions telling you he's this or that, but the Bible says (among many things):

  • He is God in the flesh
  • He lived a sinless life
  • He died on a cross for our sins
  • He rose again from the dead
  • He will return in a physical body for his church

Here are a few definitions of Jesus Christ that disagree with the Bible:

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormonism)

They teach that God, the father of Jesus, was once a man who became one of many gods. Jesus was one of his many children by physical sexual union with Mary. Jesus was married on earth and is now a god himself and is married in heaven. Jesus' death did not atone for sins.

The Bible does not teach this.

Jehovah's Witnesses

They teach that Jesus is not God and that before he came to earth he was the archangel Michael. They also teach that Jesus returned to earth in spirit in 1914.

The Bible does not teach this.

Judaism

They do not believe that Jesus is God, the Messiah, or that he rose from the dead. They either believe he was a fanatic or a false messiah.

The Bible does not teach this.

Hinduism

They teach that Jesus was a teacher, a guru, or an incarnation of Vishnu, a Hindu god. He did not die for our sins and he did not rise from the dead.

The Bible does not teach this.

Buddhism

They have no real teachings about Jesus. Western Buddhists see Jesus has an enlightened man.

The Bible does not teach this.

Christian Science

They teach that Jesus is not God but a man who displayed the Christ "idea". They teach that Jesus did not die on the cross.

The Bible does not teach this.

Unity School of Christianity

They teach that Jesus is not God but a man who displayed the Christ "Consciousness". They teach that Jesus has been reincarnated (many times). Jesus did not die for our sins and did not rise physically from the grave.

The Bible does not teach this.

Scientology

Jesus is rarely mentioned in Scientology. Jesus is not the creator and did not die for our sins.

The Bible does not teach this.

Baha'i World Faith

They teach that Jesus is one of many manifestations of God. Jesus is not God and did not rise from the dead.

The Bible does not teach this.

There are many other faiths that teach about Jesus but none of them teach that Jesus is God or that he died for our sins or that he rose from the dead.

What Does the Bible Say?

The Bible says that Jesus Christ is God and that he came from heaven to earth. The Bible says that Jesus Christ is the Word of God made flesh and it warns us that anyone, or any religion, that teaches differently is not from God. The Bible teaches that Jesus Christ lived a sinless life and, even though he did nothing wrong, was crucified on a cross. The Bible teaches that Jesus Christ literally died but he rose again from the grave. The Bible says that Jesus Christ is the only sacrifice acceptable by his Father for man's sins. The Bible says that Jesus Christ ascended to heaven and that he will return to the earth in a physical body.

Why is this important?

The Bible teaches that we have sinned against God and because of this we are under the wrath of God. If we die without our sins being forgiven we will go to hell. God has given mankind a season of time to admit their sins, accept Jesus Christ as the only sacrifice recognized by God as sufficient to remove their sins, and become his children.

You may choose to disagree with the Bible and God allows you that choice. God will never force anyone to believe in him; he's a loving God. His desire is that you would trust him, believe him and ask him to be your God and savior.

You can ask him that right now if you like. There is no "right" way to ask, just talk to him from your heart. Tell him how you feel, admit you've sinned against him and ask for his forgiveness. Tell him you believe that Jesus Christ is truly the savior of mankind and that you want him to be your savior. The instant you do he will deliver you from your sins and you will become a child of God.

Too simple? This is God's way, not man's way. God made it simple; man makes it difficult.

Read the Bible for yourself (start with the Gospel of John) and ask God to help you understand it. He will.

Take care,

Pastor Chris
